SPHSD COMAAND Flag-off

Lugbe Abuja Outreach

COMAAND is an initiative of Society for Public Health and Social Development. It is an expression of our conviction and desire to be of help to the many in view of the challenges posed by NCDs and other life problems.

In a bid to making our vision a reality of signing our presence in every community in Nigeria, We decided to extend the benevolence of COMAAND to the parishioners of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Federal Housing Authority Lugbe, Abuja

Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) are usually caused by genetic or lifestyle factors. Four types of NCDs – Cardiovascular Diseases, Cancers, Diabetes and Chronic Respiratory Diseases – account for almost two-thirds of all deaths globally, with 80 per cent of these occurring in low- and middle-income countries.

Noncommunicable Diseases in Nigeria

NCDs are approximately responsible for 29% of all deaths in Nigeria with the risk factors being harmful alcohol use, physical inactivity, overweight and obesity, unhealthy food consumption, high salt intake, tobacco use, elevated blood pressure, diabetes and air pollution.

Most members of the community are affected directly or indirectly with family members, friends or colleagues that are suffering socially and financially as a result of NCDs. Most of the above risk factors can be prevented at an individual level and by extension at the community level over time which is what COMAAND aims to achieve.
